The man pushes a vial into his hand and utters his last words: "Banana Fish." This phrase isn't new to Ash, and it opens a door to an old mystery and the exquisite possibility of freedom.ĭays later, Ash meets Okumura Eiji, a young Japanese man who came to the United States as the assistant to a photographer who hopes to do a journalistic piece on American youth gangs. Ash's world changes when he stumbles across a dying man in an alley. Mostly he's treading water - trying to stay alive as he struggles to free himself from the unendurable tether of Papa Dino Golzine, the mob boss who has been grooming him to be both his lover and heir since he was a child. With a brutal past and not a lot of hope for a better future, Ash is holding steady in his life as the leader of a gang in downtown Manhattan. 'Well, they swim into a hole where theres a lot of bananas. Originally serialized in Shōjo Comic from 1985 to 1994, the series follows Ash Lynx, a teenage gang leader in New York City. The bananafish represents Seymour, and all the other returning soldiers. With the time gap from October 11th, 1985 to October 22nd, 1986 in the “Banana Fish” story (about a 1 year gap) these photos alleviate the time gap a bit making it seem like Ash and Eiji had multiple times to venture out before and during the gang war with Arthur. These 3 photos Eiji had taken of Ash were put in the short story epilogue “Garden of Light” which Yoshida-sensei had published after “Banana Fish”. In the English print of “Angel eyes” the translation of Shorter talking about the breeze leaves out the Autumn/Fall season they were currently in. The English print corrects this by omitting the years that has passed. Maxon’s reports of the incident of Dong Tham state it was 13 years ago when it should be 12. ![]() In “Banana Fish: Rebirth”, Eiji is said to be born as “Hayaumare”, people that are born before school starts between January 1st and April 1st. With Eiji stating he was 19 and was a college student, this means that his birthday is either on or before March 8th (date of when he first visits America). Those accepted into college must be 18 before or on April 1st. In the Japanese Educational System a typical school year begins on April 1st and ends in March of the following year and rarely skip years while in school. ![]()
